YOUNG READERS - THE UNICORNS OF BALINOR

This endearing 8-book series is written by Mary Stanton, author of the classic book The Heavenly Horse of the Outermost West and its sequel, Piper at the Gate. Many readers were disappointed that the series stopped somewhat abruptly at #8. Unfortunately Scholastic did not want to continue the series.

Best described as a story about a girl and her unicorn, Princess Ari and The Sunchaser must defeat the villianous Shifter to save Balinor from succumbing to evil. Elements of other fantasy novels will be evident to older readers. Stanton even appropriated characters and places from Piper at the Gate in later Balinor novels. My favourite part about the books is the lovely cover art.
